Jeff Patterson "JP"
Jeff Patterson “JP”
Jeff Patterson "JP" is from North Chicago, IL and has a B.A. in Sociology from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (1994). It was at Whitewater that JP and Spencer Johnson met as football players. JP always had a love for barbering and was the unofficial campus barber for many of his friends and teammates while in college. After graduation, JP wanted to pursue his Barber & Cosmetology License in Illinois, but due to long waiting lists for enrollment, he moved to Madison instead. JP received his license from Madison Cosmetology College in 1996, and established JP Hair Design, Inc. in 1998. He began as a one-person studio, and in 1999, expanded to a four-chair barbershop with two apprentices; Spencer Johnson and Jimmy Cross.  In 2003, JP expanded again to an eight-chair, full-service establishment with barbers, beauticians, nail technicians, esthetic services, massage practitioner and shoe shine. While massage and esthetic services are no longer provided, JP Hair Design proudly offers a full-range of services with seven barbers and two beauticians. JP enhances his passion for the barber and cosmetology industry by serving on the Barber and Cosmetology Examining Board for the State of Wisconsin. Furthermore, he has completed advanced training at South West Technical College and Madison Area Technical College to become a barber and cosmetology instructor. JP aspires to continue his successful business while balancing his role as barber and cosmetology instructor. His mentor is Taylor “Smitty” Smith, a respected barber who taught   JP to have fun, be professional, and respect all customers.  JP met his wife Dawn in college and they were married in 1996.  They have a 2 sons Jairus and Dane, Jairus is five years old and Dane is one years old.

Spencer Johnson
Spencer Johnson began his barbering career at JP Hair Design in April, 1999. In 2004, he became part of management, and continues to sharpen his skills as a barber by attending courses and seminars in the competitive cosmetology market. Spencer’s arrival to barbering came after many other experiences and accomplishments. He was born December 5, 1972 in Los Angeles, CA.  Shortly after his birth his family moved to Memphis, TN and they remained there for 12 years before relocating to Madison, WI.  Spencer is the son of Bishop Eugene and Carolyn Johnson of Madison Pentecostal Assembly. Spencer grew up with a love for music (drumming at the church) and football. In fact, it was his football success at Memorial High School that opened up an opportunity for him to play at Oregon State University and UW- Whitewater.  UW-Whitewater is the location where Spencer and JP met.  After college, Spencer pursued a career in marketing at an advertising agency back in Memphis, TN, but then later returned to Madison to work in the banking industry.  When JP approached Spencer about coming to the new shop Spencer decided to try his hand at a new career. He received his license from Madison Area  Technical College.
